vivaLAB is on a mission to move precision healthcare out of the laboratory and into daily life. By integrating metagenomics (gut microbiome), metabolomics (metabolic health), and lifestyle data, the platform empowers individuals to manage their biology with rigor. But delivering this mission meant overcoming a computational challenge: ingesting and analyzing between seven and 15 gigabytes of raw biometric data per user.

Our mission is to change healthcare from a reactive industry that treats symptoms to a proactive system focused on 'health span.' By building a digital twin on Google Cloud, we allow consumers to look through the front windscreen and predict their health future, rather than looking through a rearview mirror at the symptoms of yesterday.

As the immense volume of data led to insurmountable computing and storage bottlenecks, the attempts to convert siloed research tools into a consumer product meant the team had to find a breakthrough. Annotating every gene took up to eight weeks—a timeline that slowed down consumer engagement. To scale, vivaLAB engaged Aviato Consulting to deploy a serverless infrastructure on Google Cloud. Using Cloud Storage as an 'infinite data lake,' vivaLAB moved from fragmented research silos to a unified, real-time workflow. This removed the heavy lifting of data engineering and allowed the team to focus on health insights, turning massive datasets into a 'living bio-bank.'

Turning complex biological data into
actionable health intelligence

BigQuery was a decisive factor: it allows us to ingest gigabytes of raw genomic data and immediately run complex queries in a serverless environment. This architecture removed the heavy lifting of data engineering, allowing us to focus on health insights rather than infrastructure.

For vivaLAB's precision health program, vivaBALANCE, a productive user journey depends on understanding subtle biological shifts over time. To achieve this level of speed-to-science, vivaLAB leverages BigQuery as a time-series engine, linking longitudinal datasets from repeated collection points to a single unique user ID. This architecture allows BigQuery ML and Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform to detect non-linear correlations and micro-trends, such as a sub-clinical decline in specific gut bacteria, that are invisible in a static test.

The team utilizes Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform as a reasoning engine and Gemini to humanize the insights by translating clinical language into plain English in order to make complex science accessible. Gemini crawls PubMed to align a user's biomarkers with the current literature and translates complex data into personalized, natural-language narratives within the vivaINSIGHT Report. Instead of static PDFs, reports are delivered through Cloud Run and Firebase, providing dynamic, real-time desktop visualizations. This ensures that every insight is not only scientifically rigorous but also immediately understandable for the consumer.

Building a proprietary longitudinal data asset
for chronic disease prevention

vivaLAB's architecture was secure-by-design from day one. In implementing strict IAM policies and siloing data, the system de-identifies sensitive biological information so that Google Cloud only interacts with unique user IDs, ensuring full GDPR and HIPAA compliance. This rigor has driven a 30% saving in data maintenance costs compared to incumbents and reduced bioinformatics run costs from $1,500 to $400 per report, providing a secure and efficient foundation for global expansion into US and European markets while maintaining a platform that the vivaLAB scientific team can own and operate.

Ultimately, the value of the solution extends well beyond the initial report. vivaLAB plans to utilize MedGemma to ingest external health records and AI Co-scientist to expedite clinical trial protocols for regulatory approval. By transforming research into a structured, searchable knowledge base, vivaLAB is moving toward a dynamic 'AI-driven ecosystem.' This digital-first approach redefines what is possible in precision health, turning every user journey into a global contribution to longevity knowledge.

vivaLAB decodes unique multi-omic and real world (phenotypic) data into actionable health insights, empowering individuals to live longer and healthier lives.
