6x user growth at flat infra cost with Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)
Return validation down to three minutes with Gemini Pro
CRM campaigns run in <1 hour using Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform
Purplle uses Google Cloud and Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform to drive user growth and automate core retail operations.
Founded in 2012, Purplle, an omnichannel beauty and ecommerce platform in India, serves more than 17 million Monthly Active Users (MAUs). It has scaled alongside the rapid expansion of mobile internet consumption across India.
But navigating hyper-individualized skin and hair profiles for millions across regional markets requires deep technical agility. That’s why Purplle saw the need to shift to a decoupled microservices architecture on Google Cloud.
Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) forms its backbone cloud-native infrastructure, and is supported by Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, and Cloud Pub/Sub for event-driven messaging. Concurrently, the company unified its analytical layers into a high-scale data warehouse on BigQuery with the help of Google Cloud Partner Ankercloud, utilizing Datastream for real-time change data capture and Managed Service for Apache Airflow (formerly Cloud Composer) for automated workflow orchestration.
The initial migration and subsequent layer optimization yielded an immediate 30% direct reduction in infrastructure costs. More importantly, Purplle achieved true ‘Cost Neutrality’ at unicorn scale, sustaining a massive 6x growth in business scale—expanding from three million to over 17 million MAUs—while keeping absolute infrastructure expenses completely flat.
The GKE ecosystem maintains a resilient 99.99% uptime, effortlessly absorbing 10x traffic spikes during peak mega-sale events without downtime. Mobile application stability also surged, achieving 99% crash-free and 98% ANR-free (App Not Responding) rates during peak loads. In addition, its P95 search latency plummeted from 1.2 seconds to just 300 milliseconds, triggering an immediate 8% to 10% uplift in search-driven Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) for the company.
With Google Cloud, we have planet-scale infrastructure available at our fingertips. With that kind of power, you stop asking if it is possible and you really start thinking about what you could do next, shifting your focus entirely toward the pace of innovation.

With a robust data engine established, Purplle transitioned from an "AI-first" to an "AI-native" organization. The company deployed a multi-agent AI operating layer powered by the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, Gemini Pro, and Google Vision models, shifting internal teams from manual execution to supervising autonomous digital agents.
In CRM marketing, an agentic framework of Planner, Copywriter, and Scheduler agents compressed promotional campaign cycles from one week to under an hour, reducing dependencies from 10 people to 2–3 operators. For Reverse Pickup (RVP) flows handling roughly 2,000 daily requests, a trio of decision agents analyzed customer photos for damage or expiration, slashing refund resolution timelines from 3–4 days to just three minutes and replacing a 20-to-25-member manual team.
Operational agility extended to assortment planning—shifting from monthly manual cycles to continuous updates through a conversational agent—and pricing. Utilizing Cloud AutoML and Cloud Run functions, a self-serve pricing engine went live in two weeks, updating automatically every four hours. These implementations drove a 70% reduction in manual operations, shrinking Mean Time To Recovery (MTTR) from eight hours to under 30 minutes.
We have fundamentally redesigned how work gets done. We transitioned from people executing workflows to people supervising AI agents. This digital operating layer delivers a non-linear scalability that completely changes our cost structure.

Additionally, Purplle accelerated engineering velocity 3x to 5x through Project Bhramika, utilizing Cursor and Refine to build software panels within 48 to 72 hours. Backed by 40% to 70% faster release cycles and 50% to 60% faster data science deployments, Purplle locked in a non-linear growth trajectory.
Ultimately, this responsive layer ensures rapid expansion never dilutes user experience. Google Cloud provides the foundational agility to turn data loops into meaningful retail interactions. As Katyayani puts it: “With Google Cloud, Purplle is creating a new way to make beauty accessible to millions across India in a way that feels deeply personal to them.”

Purplle is a leading Indian beauty platform serving 15-18 million users. By unifying digital personalization with a neighborhood store footprint, Purplle democratizes high-quality beauty across India.
