Finding a creative infrastructure for a more expressive learning experience
Neutopia creates digital communities where students develop a genuine sense of belonging as they move through their educational journey.
Founder Jamie Engel set out to design a platform that treats learning as something to be experienced—not just delivered—creating environments that feel engaging, intuitive, and expressive, rather than purely functional.
However, the platform’s previous cloud architecture required ongoing DevOps management, placing pressure on a lean engineering team. More significantly, the surrounding ecosystem was optimised for technical efficiency and analytics, creating a mismatch for a product grounded in design, storytelling, and human experience.
When Engel encountered the generative AI capabilities of Google Cloud, it marked a turning point. What had previously been constrained by infrastructure could now evolve into something more flexible and creative.
With the right foundation in place, Neutopia could begin to scale learning experiences that feel more adaptive, more engaging, and more aligned with how people naturally think and learn.
Our platform's potential was being limited by infrastructure that favored utility over creativity. When I saw the Google Cloud generative AI capabilities, I realized the creative possibilities. It aligned perfectly with our vision of making learning cinematic and magical.

Neutopia migrated its infrastructure to Google Cloud to establish a scalable foundation for integrating AI into the learning experience.
With Gemini, Imagen and Veo, we can support different ways of learning, whether that’s visual, text-based, or video, allowing content to adapt to how each learner engages best.

Using Gemini, the platform introduces an intelligence layer that enhances how learners interact with content— including AI-powered transformations that present material in different formats.
With Imagen and Veo, Neutopia enables more visual and expressive outputs across both images and video, including graphic novel-style outputs and short-form video content that allow learners to demonstrate understanding beyond traditional text-based formats.
To ensure a seamless transition, Neutopia collaborated with Google Cloud partner Spaceman. The partner managed the architectural strategy and execution, delivering the migration on schedule without disrupting the platform's operations. This support allowed Neutopia’s lean engineering team to bypass the heavy lifting of infrastructure setup and immediately focus on experimenting with the new AI capabilities.

The shift to Google Cloud has fundamentally changed how Neutopia operates. By minimising time spent on infrastructure maintenance, the team now works with greater speed and flexibility—where new features can be rapidly prototyped, tested, and refined.
This allows Neutopia’s lean engineering team to focus on innovation rather than maintenance, increasing both the speed and quality of product development.
The platform now supports educators in creating psychologically safe, neuro-inclusive learning environments. By expanding beyond traditional formats, learners can engage through multiple modalities—visual, interactive, and community-driven—in ways that feel natural to them.
The result is a learning environment where students can participate more actively, build confidence, and explore ideas creatively, supported by a community that encourages experimentation, expression, and growth.
