The new way to support social fundraising
GivePanel set out to quickly scale its platform as nonprofits in Europe and the United States required services to raise more money through social media. With 400 customers, including one of the largest charities in the U.S., GivePanel uses Cloud Run to manage its entire infrastructure without management demands, so the organization can focus more on improving customer experiences.
Nonprofits turn to GivePanel to manage their fundraising campaigns and track performance, identify key donor data points, and message donors seamlessly from one platform. As part of the environment, reliance on Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL, Cloud Run, and Cloud Load Balancers minimize GivePanel’s IT costs while maximizing scalability and function.
With Cloud Run, we can do everything in Node.js, which is basically JavaScript. This makes it really easy to learn and manage for our developers. Our environment is very agile. We can shift things within Google Cloud as our platform demands evolve. Cloud run aligns perfectly with our current and future goals.

Why Google Cloud?
GivePanel initially built its platform on Firebase because it’s very easy to use and manage. The organization also participated in the Google for Startups program to take advantage of credits that further reduced costs as it onboarded more customers. Eventually, GivePanel needed more capabilities than were available through Firebase.
The organization’s small engineering team worked with Google Cloud partner Searce to migrate all of its services and database infrastructure from Firebase and App Engine to Cloud Run. Searce provided engineering support and Google Cloud expertise to rebuild the platform on a much more scalable foundation to support GivePanel’s quickly growing customer base.
Searce’s team of solvers augment the GivePanel engineering team and use Cloud Load Balancing to reduce network latency. Insights and guidance from Searce helped GivePanel realize additional cost savings and improve platform performance through new Google Cloud features and services

Searce also helped GivePanel utilize Google Maps Platform for address validation and place details, allowing charities to create event and campaign registration forms that streamline information gathering for users.
GivePanel is now building out its platform’s querying and data management capabilities to address increased customer demand for analytics. The company is experimenting with BigQuery and Looker to enhance dashboard offerings.
