Bridging the gap between digital data and the physical page

In a world of overflowing inboxes, it’s easy for digital messages to get ignored, swiped away, or caught in spam filters. That’s why a physical, high-quality printed newspaper can feel like a breath of fresh air—tactile, memorable, and naturally commanding attention. Genscom has spent over a decade making this meaningful medium accessible to everyone, helping local sports clubs, care homes, and schools share their stories without needing professional graphic design skills.

As Genscom began working with larger corporate brands, it noticed they too wanted to cut through the noise of online marketing by sending tailored, printed publications to prospective clients. However, doing so at scale was slow and difficult. Manually designing a single personalized multi-page newspaper took hours. Trying to create 100 different versions for 100 different audiences took days of copy-pasting and layout tweaking.

To change this traditional approach, Genscom worked with technology experts ML6 to rebuild its platform on Google Cloud. Rather than choosing a legacy setup and patching artificial intelligence tools on top, Genscom wanted a unified environment designed for smart automation from the outset. By keeping its entire data stack in one place, it could seamlessly link live digital customer information directly with its physical print infrastructure.

We wanted to give our customers the speed and intelligence of digital marketing combined with the tactile trust of a printed paper. Consolidating on Google Cloud allowed us to build an automated system that retains our high standard of design quality, no matter how many versions we print.

“We wanted to give our customers the speed and intelligence of digital marketing combined with the tactile trust of a printed paper,” explains Stefaan Vanysacker, CEO and founder at Genscom. “Consolidating on Google Cloud allowed us to build an automated system that retains our high standard of design quality, no matter how many versions we print.”

Automating creative storytelling with the Genscom Curator

Genscom’s digital journey started with helping organizations preserve their history. Local clubs celebrating major milestones often wanted to include old stories locked away in paper archives. To solve this, Genscom built an intelligent layout reader using open-source machine learning models managed on Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform (formerly known as Vertex AI). This tool scanned decades of physical papers, figured out how text flowed across columns, and digitized the archives so customers could easily find and reuse important articles in modern layouts. Next, Genscom trained custom models on Google Cloud to analyze the empty spaces on a page and automatically arrange text and pictures professionally.

This evolution led to the company’s latest innovation: the Genscom Curator, a platform that manages content workflows through two distinct models based on a client's needs. The first model focuses on self-publishing for organizations, automating production layouts for regular clients like care homes and charities. Instead of asking volunteers to manually assemble pages, schedules, or tables, Genscom uses automated formatting templates to build pages instantly from raw files like spreadsheets.

The second model focuses on targeted B2B sales campaigns, helping corporate marketing teams pitch services to new prospects. For these campaigns, a business inputs a list of prospective client website URLs and an outline of the services it wants to showcase. Genscom uses Cloud Run functions and BigQuery to automatically pull and clean company information from those target websites.

The Genscom Curator then uses Gemini models to analyze the target company’s industry and area of work and automatically writes the pitch, matching it with relevant industry use cases from the sender’s internal customer database. The platform adapts the text to the prospect’s exact corporate color scheme and job title to ensure the final product aligns perfectly with the target audience’s profile.

To maintain optimal performance during high-demand periods, Genscom uses Cloud Run to manage sudden spikes in printing orders effortlessly, whether generating a single booklet or thousands of unique pages at once. The company also relies on Firestore to securely store client data in separate databases, using an adaptable structure that easily expands as customer profiles grow over time. The system then outputs unique, print-ready, four-page newspapers sent directly to the printing presses and straight into the prospect's mailbox.

Turning a traditional print shop into a software innovator

By moving away from traditional manual design, Genscom has redefined what’s possible for its clients. Instead of spending days editing complex layouts, businesses can now generate custom, multi-page print campaigns in just 10 minutes. Because these physical papers speak directly to a reader’s specific business challenges, they capture immediate attention, generating open rates that are up to 20 times higher than standard digital marketing emails.

Using Google Cloud has transformed our business model. We’re no longer just a traditional printing company competing on volume—we’re an agile software provider that helps businesses cut through the noise and build real, lasting relationships with their clients.

This automation has also completely transformed Genscom’s own internal operations, saving 340 hours a week of manual layout work. These significant time savings enable staff to move away from repetitive copy-pasting to focus on strategic initiatives, such as developing new software features and expanding into fresh corporate markets. This newfound agility has helped Genscom triple its revenue and double its headcount to meet rapidly growing demand.

Next, Genscom plans to explore the latest multimodal features in Gemini to make the platform conversational. The goal is to let users design a layout simply by talking to the application, while using advanced image tools to automatically resize photos to fit dynamic print grids perfectly.

“Using Google Cloud has transformed our business model,” Vanysacker concludes. “We’re no longer just a traditional printing company competing on volume—we’re an agile software provider that helps businesses cut through the noise and build real, lasting relationships with their clients.”
