Breaking free from wedding planning stress

It’s an exciting new chapter once a couple agrees to get married. It can also be incredibly stressful. After the initial joy of sharing the news with friends and family, couples start planning for the big day, from their venue, theme, and menu to the guest list, clothes, and other essential details. With so many decisions to make, the adventure can quickly become overwhelming.

David's Bridal has been a go-to provider of wedding gowns for millions of people for over 75 years, and the company’s leadership saw the chance to look beyond the dress. Weddings are big events that require a team of experts. Florists, caterers, photographers, tailors, DJs, and many others have to come together—all orchestrated to support what everyone hopes will be the perfect day.

Connecting all these different businesses with busy couples is a huge technical challenge. Old-school websites and basic search boxes can't keep up with a bride’s visual taste or changing schedules. That's where artificial intelligence changes the game. AI can look at images to understand exactly what a couple wants, figure out their next planning step, and connect them with local vendors at the perfect moment.

To evolve into the world's largest AI-powered wedding marketplace, David’s Bridal needed a platform that could link brides, styles, and businesses in real time. It chose Google Cloud as the technology partner to make it happen.

We wanted to help couples better realize their vision for a beautiful wedding by enabling AI on Google Cloud. Our goal is to transform how customers view David’s Bridal. We’re not just about a dress. We’re about connecting couples with a trusted marketplace to make every planning step easier.

Unleashing new possibilities with
Vision AI and Gemini

What happens when a bride can’t find the words to describe the perfect dress? David's Bridal answered this mystery by launching Pearl Planner, a platform built on Google Cloud to organize the planning process.

Wedding planning is deeply personal, and words like "romantic" mean something different to every couple.

Instead of relying on abstract text, Pearl Planner builds a preference graph based on concrete visuals the user selects. Powered by Google Cloud Vision AI, the system processes these images, extracts key design attributes, and uncovers prominent themes across every category—including venues, decor, florals, and wedding party styles.

David's Bridal then translates those visual insights into real-world connections through VendorConnect. Using Google Cloud Search APIs, the platform moves beyond simple location-based searches. It matches couples with local businesses that share their vision at the exact moment they need them.

VendorConnect makes finding and working with vendors easy from start to finish. During the selection process, vendors can instantly see a couple's style and vision. After the booking is complete, Gemini AI handles the back-and-forth by turning emails into clear to-do lists and calendar updates. This saves small business owners hours of administrative work while reducing stress for couples.

Behind the scenes, Google Cloud gives David’s Bridal the freedom to create without technical limits. The company uses multiple tools—including Google Agent Skills, Cloud Run, and Google Cloud CLI—to break down barriers between disciplines. Product managers can seamlessly move from a rough prototype to production-ready features, with no engineering background required.

For example, the product team used Gemini to build the Colors app after spotting an inspiration gap. When brides shift their focus from finding their own dress to styling their wedding party, visualizing the complete picture can feel overwhelming. The app gives brides an interactive space to play with color palettes and refine their vision.

This is pure magic for brides. Instead of holding a tiny fabric swatch up to a screen and trying to guess what the final look will be, they get instant visual certainty. Brides can experiment with different color schemes on a real dress and see exactly how it coordinates with the wedding theme from 360 degrees.

Design is visual, not verbal, which is why traditional checklists fail. We use Google Cloud Vision AI to bridge that gap and give our platform the ability to read a picture and understand exactly what a bride wants. It shifts the entire experience from filling out forms to discovering a custom vision in under a minute.

Tripling digital engagement and
preparing the showroom floor

The digital shift sparked a chain reaction across the entire wedding market. Without investing in advertising, Pearl Planner attracted tens of thousands of users during its first two months. Couples responded enthusiastically to the tool. They stay on the app three times longer than standard websites, and one third of them return every week to map out their wedding plans.

The data from Pearl Planner flows directly to the stylists working on David's Bridal showroom floors, preparing them for customer appointments. The moment a fitting is booked, stylists get 50 to 60 details about a bride’s style before they even walk into the store.

This model expands data collection and sharpens personalization, all while streamlining the overall customer experience. Showroom staff can skip time-consuming intake forms and instead focus on building relationships.

For local vendors, VendorConnect replaces the static web directories that couples often found difficult to navigate. In their place are more dynamic, collaborative spaces. Here, couples can chat with merchants who meet their needs, while vendors can view timelines, track leads, and let smart AI tools organize their daily schedules. By running VendorConnect on Google Cloud, David’s Bridal can price the platform 30% to 40% lower than its competitors, passing those savings directly to small businesses.

Looking ahead, David’s Bridal is unifying its front-facing consumer tools and back-end merchant tools onto Google Cloud to provide even more opportunities for couples and vendors to connect. Over next 12 to 18 months, the company will provide visual programs that let couples digitally step inside their venue, map out seating charts, and preview how their bridal parties look in different outfits.

And this is just the beginning. With the company’s vision to go from a traditional dress realtor to a comprehensive, digital wedding planning platform, the alignment with Google Cloud is instrumental.

With more than 75 years of experience helping customers celebrate life's most magical moments, David's Bridal is the ultimate destination for weddings, special occasions, and milestone events. Through its retail stores, ecommerce marketplace, Diamond Loyalty Program, and Pearl by David's wedding planning platform, David's Bridal serves millions of customers annually with fashion, inspiration, planning tools, and exclusive partner benefits.
