This solution\nhelps you improve issue detection, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting.\nIt leverages the existing built-in alerting and monitoring features in Google Cloud.\nThe observability service combines the infrastructure metrics and your SAP application\nmetrics into a unified view to help correlate events and\nunderstand the health status of your SAP system across all its layers.\n\nWorkload Manager creates a logical representation of each\nSAP system, identified by the SAP system ID (SID), and provides a\nsystem-centric view of the workload. This lets you check the health and status of your workload at\nthe system level, rather than the status of each underlying resource it consists of.\n\nUse cases\n---------\n\nThe observability service for SAP in Workload Manager is recommended for\nthe following use cases:\n\n- Get a unified view of your SAP systems with an overall health status and sublayer health status.\n- See an overview of each SAP system, including the different layers and resources they consist of.\n- Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis by using preconfigured dashboards, or viewing annotations for the occurrences of [predefined SAP events](/workload-manager/docs/observe/sap/view-dashboards#view-sap-events) on those dashboards, which help correlate events across the infrastructure and application layers.\n- View monitoring metrics for your infrastructure, operating system, and application on a single dashboard.\n- View upcoming host maintenance events for compute instances that are based on [supported machine types](/compute/docs/instances/trigger-host-maintenance-event#limitations) and belong to a specific SAP system.\n\nHow it works\n------------\n\nThe following high-level architecture diagram shows how the information for\nobservability dashboards is collected and sent to Workload Manager:\n\nThe following list shows the information sent by the components that are part of\nthe observability service:\n\n- **Agent for SAP**:\n\n - Sends the following metrics to Cloud Monitoring:\n - Process Monitoring metrics\n - SAP HANA Monitoring metrics\n - Sends logs related to your SAP system to Cloud Logging.\n - Sends information on the underlying SAP system directly to Workload Manager.\n- **Ops Agent:**\n\n - Sends infrastructure and guest OS information to Cloud Monitoring\n- **Cloud Asset Inventory:**\n\n - Provides the following instance metadata:\n - Maintenance events\n - Instances states\n - Instances machine types\n\nSAP system mapping\n------------------\n\nBy default, the Agent for SAP only collects information about the\nunderlying compute instance. In order to create a system-centric view and\nlogical mapping of your SAP system, you need to configure additional features of\nthe agent so that it can send the following information to\nWorkload Manager:\n\n- Compute Engine instance name and number\n- Attached storage (disks, NFS)\n- Related load balancers, instance groups, health checks, forwarding rules, firewall rules\n- IP addresses\n- Database software name and version\n- Application software name and version\n- SAP system ID (SID): application and database\n\nWorkload Manager then performs a reconciliation process using the collected data\nto create a logical mapping of each SAP system which is referred to by its SID.\n\nThe following figure summarizes the system mapping in Workload Manager:\n\nPricing\n-------\n\nThe observability service for SAP in Workload Manager is available at no additional cost.\nHowever, the information for the observability dashboard comes from agents that are installed on each\nVM instance. These agents send data to Cloud Monitoring and Cloud Logging and\nyou incur costs associated with these services.\n\nThe following table provides an estimated cost of the required features that\nmust be enabled on each VM for SAP observability.\n\nFor more information, see\n[Agent for SAP pricing](/sap/docs/agent-for-sap/latest/planning#pricing)\nand the\n[Ops agent pricing](/monitoring/agent/ops-agent#pricing). You can configure both\nagents to increase the frequency of metrics collection. You might incur more\ncosts for the additional volume of metrics sent to Cloud Monitoring. In addition, both agents\ncontain other features that might lead you incurring charges outside the scope of\nobservability for SAP depending on the usage of those features.\n\nYou might also want to disable the [SAP HANA monitoring](/sap/docs/agent-for-sap/latest/config-commands#for_sap_hana_monitoring_metrics_collection) and [process monitoring](/sap/docs/agent-for-sap/latest/config-commands#for_process_monitoring_metrics_collection)\nmetrics collection features in the agent to avoid any additional costs associated with Cloud Monitoring and\nCloud Logging.\n\nIf you don't want to view any of your SAP workloads on the observability dashboard,\nthen\n[remove the workload from the dashboard](/workload-manager/docs/observe/sap/view-dashboards#remove-dashboards).\n\nWhat's next\n-----------\n\n- Read about [the supported SAP systems](/workload-manager/docs/observe/sap/supported-sap-systems).\n- Learn about [prerequisites for SAP observability](/workload-manager/docs/observe/sap/prerequisites).\n- Learn how to [observe an SAP workload](/workload-manager/docs/observe/sap/view-dashboards)."]]
