Customize assets with rightsizing

By default, StratoZone uses predefined parameters to map all your infrastructure assets to equivalent solutions on Google Cloud. Sizing parameters determine the recommendations that StratoZone provides you, and ultimately the performance and cost of your Google Cloud assets.

To rightsize the assets that you want to migrate, optimizing for performance or for cost, change the configuration parameters for a particular assessment or group.

Start by adjusting the default parameters for all of your assets, then customize the baseline values for each assessment and group, if needed.

Set sizing parameters for all assets

To configure the sizing parameters that StratoZone uses for all the assets, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the StratoZone portal.

  2. Click the Sizing tab, then click Customize for all assets.

  3. In the customization window, next to Optimization mode, set the slider to one of the following values:

    • No rightsizing: maximize the performance of your infrastructure.
    • Moderate: use a balanced approach between performance and cost.
    • Aggressive: optimize costs by reducing the performance of your infrastructure.

You can also create a custom rightsizing model, allowing you to specify the optimization levels for CPU, RAM, and storage independently. To customize the rightsizing parameters, select the Custom optimization mode checkbox, and expand the Machine configuration, sizing, and OS licensing section to review the parameters used for sizing.

  4. To confirm your new configuration, click Save sizing for all assets, then click Close.

Set sizing parameters for specific groups

To address specific use cases, after defining the default parameters you want to use, adjust the values for individual assessments or groups.

For example, you can set different sizing parameters in the following scenarios:

  • If you want to reduce the costs for your test environment, set aggressive optimization parameters to the assets that are part of your non-critical group.
  • If you want to have high reliability for your production environment, set moderate optimization parameters to the assets that are part of your critical group.

To change the sizing parameters for a specific group or assessment, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the StratoZone portal.

  2. Click the Sizing tab, then from the Actions menu, select the group type that you want to use to customize your assets.

  3. From the groups list page, click the  Edit icon next to the group that you want to customize.

  4. In the customization window, adjust the sizing parameters for the group.

  5. To confirm your new configuration, click Save sizing for this group, then click Close.
