Troubleshooting

Compute Engine

If you're having trouble configuring your Compute Engine application to use Stackdriver Debugger, follow the steps below.

Access scopes

To use Stackdriver Debugger, your Compute Engine VM instance must have one of the following two access scopes:

  • https://www.googleapis.com/auth/cloud_debugger

If your instance does not have one of these access scopes, see Changing the service account and access scopes for an instance.

You can see which access scopes your instance has by doing the following:

  1. Go to the Compute Engine VM instances page by clicking this button:

Go to the VM instances page

  2. Open an ssh session to your instance by clicking the SSH button in your instance's row.

  3. Get the list of OAuth scopes enabled on your instance by running the following command:

    curl -H "Metadata-Flavor: Google" http://metadata.google.internal/computeMetadata/v1/instance/service-accounts/default/scopes

Stackdriver Debugger logs

By default, the Stackdriver Debugger agent creates log files in the /tmp directory of your Compute Engine VM instance. The log directory can be changed by using the --log_dir parameter to the Stackdriver Debugger agent.
