This number\ncorresponds to the number of workers in your environment. Cloud Composer distributes load between all workers in your\nenvironment. In addition to running Airflow workers, your environment nodes\nalso run schedulers and other environment components.\n\nYou can scale your environment by changing the number of nodes in your\nenvironment.\n\nScale and performance parameters\n--------------------------------\n\nYou can control the scale and performance parameters of your environment by\nadjusting the machine types used by the Airflow database and web server\ncomponents of your environment. By doing so you can scale your environment\nvertically, in addition to the horizontal scaling provided by the number of\nnodes setting. You can adjust machine types of the Airflow database and web\nserver at any time.\n\nYou set the machine type for environment nodes when you create an environment.\nYou cannot change this parameter later. It means that you cannot scale Airflow\nworkers vertically in Cloud Composer 1.\n\nMultiple schedulers\n-------------------\n\nAirflow 2 can use more than one Airflow scheduler at the same time. This\nAirflow feature is also known as the **HA scheduler**. In Cloud Composer 1,\nyou can set the number of schedulers for your environment and adjust it at any\ntime. Cloud Composer does not automatically scale the number of\nschedulers in your environment.\n\nFor more information about configuring the number of schedulers for your\nenvironment, see [Scale environments](/composer/docs/composer-1/scale-environments#scheduler).\n\nDatabase disk space\n-------------------\n\nDisk space for the Airflow database automatically increases to accommodate the\ndemand.\n\nWhat's next\n-----------\n\n- [Scale environments](/composer/docs/composer-1/scale-environments)\n- [Cloud Composer pricing](/composer/pricing)\n- [Create environments](/composer/docs/composer-1/create-environments)\n- [Environment architecture](/composer/docs/composer-1/environment-architecture)"]]
