What is NotebookLM Enterprise?

NotebookLM Enterprise is a highly compliant, enterprise-ready form of the personal NotebookLM product.

NotebookLM is an AI-powered research and writing tool that helps you summarize and extract information across dense and complex sources. You can upload PDFs, Google Docs, Google Slides, website URLs, and more to build a notebook with many sources.

While popular for personal use, NotebookLM's personal product lacks the compliance and the administrative features necessary for enterprise environments. For example, unlike NotebookLM Enterprise, the personal NotebookLM isn't VPC-SC compliant and supports fewer sources.

NotebookLM Enterprise includes all the NotebookLM Plus functionality as well as enterprise grade security and compliance.

Key capabilities

NotebookLM Enterprise runs in a Cloud-compliant environment. Your data is always within your Google Cloud project and can't be shared externally.

Documents uploaded to a notebook within NotebookLM Enterprise are ingested into the Google Cloud environment and are subject to Google Cloud Terms of Service. This also applies to documents that have been uploaded to a notebook from Google Drive.

Notebooks can't be shared publicly.

Audio sharing Audio summaries can be shared through a link. Audio summaries are separate from the rest of the notebook. When users get access to the notebook, they get access to the audio summaries too; audio summaries can't be shared separately.

Separate administrator and user interfaces

There are two interfaces for NotebookLM Enterprise:

  • Admin interface: Administrators use the project's Google Cloud console UI to enable the NotebookLM capability and set up users authentication and authorization. Users with the Cloud NotebookLM Owner role can access the admin interface.

  • User interface: Your end users create and manage their notebooks through a UI that looks and behaves very much like the personal NotebookLM UI. The URL for the interface is unique for each project and must be distributed to users by the administrator.

User roles

There are five Identity and Access Management (IAM) roles predefined for NotebookLM Enterprise:

Two roles are related to accessing NotebookLM Enterprise:

  • Cloud NotebookLM Owner: Users with this role can configure identity settings, give users in a project access to NotebookLM Enterprise, and receive the URL for the user interface for sharing with end users.

  • Cloud NotebookLM User: Users with this role can sign in to the user interface and create notebooks. Users must be granted this role in order to access NotebookLM Enterprise.

Three roles are related to notebooks. These roles are intended for fine-grain control over individual notebooks and should not be granted at the project level:

  • Cloud Notebook Owner: Users with this role create and delete notebooks, upload sources, chat with content, and generate audio summaries.

Users must have this role to share notebooks.

  • Cloud Notebook Editor: Users with this role upload sources, chat with content, and generate audio summaries.

  • Cloud Notebook Viewer: Users with this role can view the sources, listen to audio overviews, and chat with content.
