What do I get for free? Can I try before buying?

With the monthly $200 free credit for Maps, Routes, or Places, the vast majority of customers find their use cases to be completely free. You won't be charged until your usage exceeds $200 in a month. Usage of the Maps Embed API, Maps SDK for Android and iOS is also free without using your credit.

Why is a credit card or billing account required? How do know I won't get charged?

We ask for your credit card or billing account to cover any amount you spend over the $200 monthly free credit. You can set quotas or limits on your daily requests to ensure sudden increased usage doesn't exceed your budget or cause an unexpected bill. Learn how to set daily limits here .

What is the pricing after the free monthly credit?

Pricing is based on monthly usage of requests, per the rates in the above table. For simplicity, prices listed are per 1,000 requests, but you will be billed per request. Learn more

What is a request?

Requests can either be calls to the API, or load events of maps or panoramas. User interactions like zooming or panning are not charged. Learn more

Am I eligible for volume pricing discounts?

Usage above 100K monthly requests is automatically discounted by 20%. Businesses with high-volume usage over 500K monthly requests, should contact us for volume pricing discounts, enterprise-grade customer support, and/or offline contracts.

Is there special pricing available for non-profits?

Google Maps Platform credits are available for eligible nonprofit, startup, crisis response, and news media organizations. Learn how to apply

How do I get an API key?

Click on "Get Started" and complete the flow to get your API key. Your API key will work for any of the APIs in any of the products (Maps, Routes or Places) you've enabled. If you've already gone through the flow, click here to go to the console and get your API key

Which APIs are enabled by each product?

Each product (Maps, Routes or Places) enables a set of APIs. You can select multiple products, and use as many of the APIs in each product as you'd like. Here are the APIs enabled within each product:

  • Maps: Maps SDK for Android; Maps SDK for iOS; Maps JavaScript API; Maps Static API; Street View API; Maps Embed API.
  • Routes: Maps JavaScript API, Directions API; Distance Matrix API; and Roads API.
  • Places: Places API, Places Library, Maps JavaScript API; Geocoding API; Geolocation API; Time Zone API; and Elevation API."
