A unidade de transmissão máxima (MTU) é o tamanho, em bytes, do maior pacote suportado por um protocolo de camada de rede, incluindo cabeçalhos e a carga útil de pacotes IP.
Os pacotes de rede enviados através de um túnel VPN são encriptados e, em seguida, encapsulados num pacote externo para que possam ser encaminhados. Os túneis da VPN na nuvem usam IPsec e ESP para encriptação e encapsulamento. Uma vez que o pacote interno encapsulado tem de caber no MTU do pacote externo, a respetiva carga útil máxima do pacote IP tem de ser inferior.
A VPN de HA através do Cloud Interconnect não suporta frames jumbo para associações de VLAN encriptadas.
Encapsulamento e processamento de pacotes
Para transmitir pacotes com êxito através de túneis de VPN na nuvem, tem de ativar a pré-fragmentação no gateway de VPN do seu par para que os pacotes que envia sejam fragmentados antes de serem encriptados e encapsulados.
À medida que um túnel do Cloud VPN processa pacotes destinados à sua rede de pares:

MTU do gateway versus MTU da carga útil
O Cloud VPN distingue entre a MTU do gateway do Cloud VPN e a MTU da carga útil do Cloud VPN. O MTU do gateway da VPN na nuvem é:
- 1460 bytes, para túneis do Cloud VPN
- 1440 bytes, para HA VPN através do Cloud Interconnect
Configure o seu gateway de VPN de intercâmbio para usar uma MTU que corresponda à MTU do gateway de VPN na nuvem correspondente.
A MTU da carga útil de um túnel de VPN do Google Cloud depende das cifras que o túnel está configurado para usar e se o gateway usa interfaces IPv4 ou IPv6. Para mais informações, consulte os valores de MTU da carga útil da Cloud VPN.
MTU em gateways de VPN de HA com interfaces IPv6
A MTU do gateway é a mesma nos gateways de VPN de alta disponibilidade com interfaces IPv6 e nos gateways de VPN de alta disponibilidade com interfaces IPv4. No entanto, uma vez que os cabeçalhos IPv6 são maiores do que os cabeçalhos IPv4, a MTU de carga útil de um gateway com interfaces IPv6 é sempre 20 bytes inferior à MTU de carga útil de um gateway de VPN de alta disponibilidade com endereços IPv4 idênticos.
Por exemplo, um gateway de VPN de HA com interfaces IPv4 que usam cifras não AEAD tem um MTU de gateway de 1460 bytes e um MTU de carga útil de 1406 bytes. Por outro lado, um gateway de VPN de HA com interfaces IPv6 que use cifras não AEAD tem uma MTU de gateway de 1440 bytes e uma MTU de carga útil de 1386 bytes.
