This document explains how to turn off Gemini for Google Cloud products, including the following:
- Gemini Cloud Assist
- Gemini Code Assist
- Gemini in BigQuery
- Gemini in Colab Enterprise
- Gemini in Databases
- Gemini in Looker
Before you begin
- To update a Gemini for Google Cloud subscription, make sure you have the
billing.subscriptions.update
Identity and Access Management (IAM) permission. Thebilling.subscriptions.update
permission is included in theroles/billing.admin
IAM role, or you can add the permission to a custom role.
Turn off Gemini Cloud Assist
To turn off Gemini Cloud Assist, do the following:
To limit access for specific users in your organization, remove Identity and Access Management permissions for Gemini Cloud Assist:
Console
Go to the IAM & Admin page.
In the Principal column, find a principal for which you want to remove access to Gemini, and then click
Edit principal in that row.In the Edit access pane, do the following:
Locate the Gemini for Google Cloud User role, and then click
Delete role.Locate the Service Usage Consumer role, and then click
Delete role.
Click Save.

In the Google Cloud console, activate Cloud Shell.
Remove the Gemini for Google Cloud User role:
gcloud projects remove-iam-policy-binding PROJECT_ID \ --member=PRINCIPAL --role=roles/cloudaicompanion.user
Replace
PRINCIPAL
with the identifier for the principal. The identifier takes the formuser|group|serviceAccount:email
ordomain:domain
—for example,user:cloudysanfrancisco@gmail.com
,group:admins@example.com
,serviceAccount:test123@example.domain.com
, ordomain:example.domain.com
.The output is a list of policy bindings.
Remove the Service Usage Consumer role:
gcloud projects remove-iam-policy-binding PROJECT_ID \ --member=PRINCIPAL --role=roles/serviceusage.serviceUsageConsumer
The output is a list of policy bindings.

.Optional: If you are disabling all Gemini for Google Cloud products, then turn off the Gemini for Google Cloud API.
Turn off Gemini Code Assist
To turn off Gemini Code Assist, do the following:
In the Google Cloud console, go to the Admin for Gemini page.
Click Purchased products.
Select the applicable billing account, and then click Continue to Admin for Gemini page.
From the list of purchased products, select the Gemini Code Assist subscription. The name of the subscription depends on the name given when Gemini Code Assist was set up.
Review the subscription details and check whether Auto renew is set to On or Off.
- If automatic renewal is off, then your Gemini Code Assist subscription is set to end on the subscription end date.
- If automatic renewal is on, then click Manage subscription and proceed to the next step.
For Automatic subscription renewal, select No, don't automatically renew, and then click Continue.
If you agree to the terms of purchase, select I agree to the terms of this purchase, and then click Save changes.
Optional: If you are disabling all Gemini for Google Cloud products, then turn off the Gemini for Google Cloud API.
Turn off Gemini in BigQuery
To turn off all Gemini for Google Cloud products including BigQuery, see Turn off the Gemini for Google Cloud API. Otherwise, you can limit access for specific users.
To limit access for specific users, you can remove Identity and Access Management permissions for the feature. For a list of permissions required for Gemini in BigQuery, see Grant IAM roles on a Google Cloud project in "Set up Gemini in BigQuery."
Users can also turn off Gemini in BigQuery features:
In the Google Cloud console, go to the BigQuery page.
In the toolbar, click pen_sparkGemini.
Clear the Gemini features that you want to turn off.
Turn off Gemini in Colab Enterprise
To turn off Gemini in Colab Enterprise, do the following:
In the Google Cloud console, go to the Colab Enterprise Notebooks page.
Open a notebook.
In the Colab Enterprise toolbar, click pen_spark Help me code.
Clear the Gemini features that you want to turn off.
In the Google Cloud console, go to the Admin for Gemini page.
Click Purchased products.
Select the applicable billing account. and then click Continue to Admin for Gemini page.
From the list of purchased products, select the Gemini in Colab Enterprise subscription with the name vertex.
Click Turn Off, and then click Confirm.
Optional: If you are disabling all Gemini for Google Cloud products, then turn off the Gemini for Google Cloud API.
Turn off Gemini in Databases
To turn off Gemini in Databases, do the following:
In the Google Cloud console, go to the Admin for Gemini page.
Click Purchased products.
Select the applicable billing account, and then click Continue to Admin for Gemini page.
From the list of purchased products, select databases.
Click Turn Off.
Optional: If you are disabling all Gemini for Google Cloud products, then turn off the Gemini for Google Cloud API.
Turn off Gemini in Looker
You can turn off the Gemini in Looker features that appear in Looker (Google Cloud core) independently from those in Looker Studio.

To turn off the Gemini in Looker features that appear in Looker (Google Cloud core), do the following:
- In the Google Cloud console, navigate to the Google Cloud project that contains the Looker (Google Cloud core) instance for which you want to turn off Gemini in Looker.
- On the Instances page, click the name of the instance for which you want to turn off Gemini in Looker.
- Click Edit.
- Expand the Gemini in Looker (Google Cloud core) section.
- Clear the Gemini checkbox.
- Save your changes.
To turn off the Gemini in Looker features that appear in Looker Studio, do the following:
- Sign in to Looker Studio.
- Click the User settings gear icon, and then select the Gemini in Looker tab.
- Turn off the Enabled toggle for the Google Cloud project that is associated with the Looker Studio Pro subscription for which you would like to turn off Gemini in Looker features. If you turn off the Enabled toggle, the Trusted Tester features and Trusted Tester data use toggles, if enabled, are turned off automatically.
Turn off the Gemini for Google Cloud API
After you turn off all other Gemini for Google Cloud products for your project, turn
off the Gemini for Google Cloud API (cloudaicompanion.googleapis.com
