We’re back with our second and final recap of the Google Cloud Public Sector Summit! Day two was another exciting and insightful day of sessions that showcased powerful stories of public sector innovation and resiliency worldwide.

Discussions centered on the impact of new solutions and collaboration across global public sector organizations – and emphasized the importance of diversity and inclusion. Candid stories and experiences highlighted the creativity and innovation emerging across the global public sector community as agencies and ministries tackle difficult and unprecedented challenges to support their constituencies.

Kicking off the Americas program, Dr. Jennifer Eberhardt, author of Biased: Uncovering the Hidden Prejudice That Shapes What We See, Think and Do, delivered a memorable keynote focused on how bias shows up in our lives and the tools we can use to help our public sector community lead with openness. Dr. Eberardt’s keynote is just one of several sessions focused on the critical work of building inclusivity and belonging into the work we do, the services we provide, and the products we create. Customer Stories from Across the Globe

Paul Wilson, Director, Public Sector, Asia Pacific and Japan for Google Cloud, opened with examples of how governments and societies across the region have proven innovative, responsive and resilient during this time.  He shared insights into how the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control implemented an online agent for COVID-19 response to better serve citizens and provided insight on the Reliance Health Services in the Philippines and their rapid transition to remote work.

In the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Region, Mark Palmer, Head of Public Sector, EMEA for Google Cloud, welcomed the audience, sharing a unique perspective on five successful organizational behaviors that can help the public sector diffuse digital technology.  Pairing each with a memorable success story ‒ from the UK's Department of Transport to the Rostlab Technical University of Munich, the audience came away from the keynote with relevant models for their own organizations.

  • Rachel Dunscombe, CEO and Director of NHS Digital Academy and Tektology joins Google Cloud’s UK/I Public Sector team and other thought leaders to share their experiences and insights on driving innovation while boosting operational efficiency in their session, Is It Possible to Innovate and Drive Operational Efficiency?

  • Google Cloud executives discussed the importance of implementing AI/ML at an organization’s own pace -- while leveraging sentiment analysis to improve citizen services.  This session featured a live demonstration of the Natural Language API’s sentiment analysis feature - explore it yourself at Improving the Citizen Experience with Sentiment Analysis.

Investing for the Future – Prioritizing Innovation

Innovation requires investment. And prioritizing which technology will provide the most value for the organization now and in the future is a challenge all public sector organizations and agencies face. In a session that showcased insights from government leaders, former U.S. Federal CIO Suzette Kent, along with GSA’s Assistant Commissioner, Technology Transformation Services, Dominic Sales, discussed their approach to successful prioritization of tech investments – and why that is critical to future innovation, response and resilience. All the Right Moves: Prioritizing Investments in Technology.

Stories of rapid change, innovation, challenges, and achievements from around the globe filled our screens for the past two days, generating countless lessons learned, best practices, and valuable takeaways for our public sector community.

Thank you. We want to extend our thanks to all of the customers, partners, and attendees that came together to make our inaugural, global Public Sector Summit a success.
