VP Marketing, Google Cloud
Today, we’re announcing a Google Cloud partnership with the Golden State Warriors as their official public cloud provider to help them transform their organization and do more with their data, on and off the court. More and more industries are taking advantage of data analytics to make better decisions and maintain competitive advantages—and sports is no exception. With this multi-year technology partnership, Google Cloud will also be a Founding Partner of Chase Center, the state-of-the-art sports and entertainment complex being built in San Francisco’s Mission Bay neighborhood.
Using smart analytics to improve team and player performance
As part of their journey to infuse technology into every aspect of their organization, the Warriors will use Google Cloud to enable their next generation of data analytics to better serve the needs of coaches, front office, staff, players and fans. Together, the Warriors and Google Cloud are developing real-time data pipeline analysis, allowing the Warriors to provide faster analytics on high volumes of data. In early tests, this system has reduced the time it takes to develop portions of scouting reports by half.
“Today, 70% of the Golden State Warriors analytics team’s time is spent collecting and shaping data and only 30% of time is spent analyzing it,” said Kirk Lacob, Assistant General Manager and Vice President of GSW Sports Ventures at the Warriors. “Partnering with Google Cloud to automate the collection of valuable data will allow us to free up resources and spend more time turning these insights into action.”
The Warriors plan to take advantage of Google Cloud’s serverless and fully managed technologies such as Cloud Dataflow, BigQuery, Colab, Cloud Composer and Google Data Studio to create machine learning models, data visualizations and interactive analysis that can be easily shared with coaches, staff and players. With these solutions, Google Cloud can help power the analysis of team and player performance and provide the Warriors with more data-driven touch points than ever before.
Creating more engaging fan experiences and supporting world class media & entertainment
In the future, the Warriors will be looking at new ways to use Google Cloud technology to make the fan experience memorable. The Warriors and Chase Center mobile app(s) will be hosted on Google Cloud Platform, along with Chase Center web properties, which will enhance the fan experience and provide cross-over efficiencies for users on both web and mobile. A new fan experience app, developed by the Warriors and Accenture, will use Google Cloud technologies such as App Engine and Firebase for personalization and Maps to support navigation and wayfinding. Google Cloud’s analytics capabilities will also help the Warriors promote entertainment options that will be coming to Chase Center, scheduled to open in September 2019.
We’re working closely with the Warriors to explore additional ways Google Cloud can help revolutionize their business including media production and management. In the years ahead, we look forward to bringing the best of Google Cloud to the Warriors organization and are incredibly proud to support the Warriors and the Chase Center in their quest to enhance the player, organization and fan experience.
