As more organizations in Australia seek to take advantage of cloud computing, Google Cloud has continued to expand our capabilities in the region. We opened our Sydney region in July 2017, and continue to expand our list of available services there. For current and potential cloud adopters, particularly those in the public sector and other regulated industries, security and compliance remains a top priority.

To meet the security needs of customers in the region, we’re happy to announce that Google Cloud Platform (GCP) has achieved Information Security Registered Assessors Program (IRAP) certification for a subset of services by the Australian Cyber Security Center, a part of the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD). Attaining IRAP certification confirms that GCP’s physical, personnel and information security controls meet the requirements prescribed by the ASD.

As a part of this certification, Google Cloud Platform has been added to the ASD’s Certified Cloud Services List (CCSL). Inclusion on the list opens the door for Australian federal, state, and local government agencies to store data and run workloads on GCP. IRAP certification also provides a path for GCP customers to work with the Australian government, and provides validation for private sector organizations that their data will be protected and handled in accordance with the Australian Cyber Security Center’s rigorous standards.
