This document covers how to manage VM states using Velostrata Manager, vSphere, or PowerShell.
Powering on a VM in the cloud
Using the Velostrata Manager
- Log in to your Velostrata Manager.
- Click the Migration Waves tab.
- When prompted for a username and password, use apiuser as the username.
- Click the monitor icon for the relevant Wave.
- Select the VM and click Start.
Using vCenter
- In the vSphere Web Client, select the virtual machine.
- Right-click the VM and select Velostrata Operations > Power On.
Using PowerShell
- In PowerShell, connect to the Velostrata Manager by running
Connect-VelostrataManager
. - When prompted, enter details for the server, username (apiuser) and password (the subscription ID).
- To power on a VM, run:
Start-VelosVm [-Id] <string[]>
.
Restarting a VM in the cloud
Using the Velostrata Manager
- Log in to your Velostrata Manager.
- Click the Migration Waves tab.
- Click the monitor icon for the relevant Wave.
- Select the VM and click Reboot.
When you restart a VM in the cloud and the instance does not pass health checks, Velostrata attempts to heal the VM automatically.
Using vCenter
- In the vSphere Web Client, select the virtual machine.
- Right-click the VM and select Velostrata Operations > Restart.
Using PowerShell
- In PowerShell, connect to the Velostrata Manager by running
Connect-VelostrataManager
. - When prompted, enter details for the server, username (apiuser) and password.
- To restart on a VM, run:
Restart-VelosVm [-Id] String[]
.
Shutting down a VM in the cloud
Using Velostrata Manager
- Log in to your Velostrata Manager.
- Click the Migration Waves tab.
- Click the monitor icon for the relevant Wave.
- Select the VM and click Stop.
Using vCenter
- In the vSphere Web Client, select the virtual machine.
- Right-click the VM and select Velostrata Operations > Shutdown.
Using PowerShell
- In PowerShell, connect to the Velostrata Manager by running
Connect-VelostrataManager
. - When prompted, enter details for the server, username (
apiuser
) and password (the subscription ID). - To shut down a VM, run:
Stop-VelosVm [-Id] string[]
