Monitoring overview

Monitoring Velostrata components

Velostrata's components, such as Cloud Extensions and the Velostrata Backend, provide metrics and alarms in the Velostrata Manager or vCenter. For more information about monitoring Velostrata, see the following topics:

Monitoring migrated VMs

Velostrata allows you to monitor performance of VMs migrated to Google Cloud. This includes:

Additionally, you can check the status of an individual VM by viewing its console log on either vSphere or the Velostrata Manager.

Because your workloads run on Google Cloud, you have additional logging and monitoring features available, including:

Viewing instance metrics on the Google Cloud console

To view basic CPU, disk, and network metrics for an individual VM on Compute Engine:

  1. Go to the VM instances page
  2. Click the instance ID to open the VM instance details page.
  3. Click the Monitoring tab.

Velostrata Telemetry data collection

Velostrata Telemetry collects and stores operational and performance metrics for faster troubleshooting with customer support. Telemetry information includes metrics such as network transfer volumes, I/O activity and response times, task type counters, and Google Cloud API request statistics. No names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, or migrated server names are collected or stored by the Velostrata Telemetry service. The support team can provide you the current list of metrics collected.

Keeping the telemetry service enabled expedites customer support, but it is optional. If security or other concerns prohibit the use of the telemetry service and you still need help, contact Velostrata Support.

Disabling Telemetry

You can disable the Telemetry Service via vSphere or the Velostrata Manager. See Disabling Telemetry.
