Prerequisites for migrating Linux VMs using Google Cloud processing clusters

Important: The Migrate to Containers UI in the Google Cloud console, migctl, and CRDs that use processing clusters to migrate workloads to Google Cloud are now deprecated. They are supported for existing users until May 2024, after which they will no longer be available. If you're new to Migrate to Containers, then use the Migrate to Containers CLI to perform migrations on your local machine. For more information, see Migrate to Containers CLI architecture.

This topic describes the prerequisites for using Migrate to Containers to migrate Linux VMs using processing clusters running in Google Cloud.

Confirm your workloads are compatible

Compatible OSes

Check that your workloads run an operating system supported by Migrate to Containers.

Supported VM source platforms

Migrate to Containers supports migrating VMs from the following source platforms:

• Compute Engine
• VMware vSphere

Set up Migrate to Virtual Machines (if needed)

If you'll be migrating from VMware, then set up Migrate to Virtual Machines to facilitate the control and data planes for the remote sources.
