Enhances speed and accuracy of medical analysis delivery

Advanced technologies are becoming more common in healthcare today as healthcare organizations look to enable medical providers to make faster and better decisions to improve patient outcomes. As part of this trend, analytics solutions have been especially powerful in speeding the development and delivery of more effective treatments for a wide range of cancers.

Oncology Venture, a MedTech company headquartered in Denmark, launched in 2004 with the goal of improving how medical care providers diagnose and treat patients in hospitals worldwide. As the company grew, it sought to further improve services by migrating its platform from on-premises to a cloud-based infrastructure.

Given Oncology Venture’s need for scale, speed, and security, the company turned to Google Cloud and partner Citrix.

“Oncology Venture already attempted to migrate its infrastructure to another public cloud but ran into issues. As a result, we expanded our portfolio with Google Cloud to provide a wider range of cloud-based services. This allowed them to maintain patient data security and privacy while enhancing their platform’s performance.”

Platform migration for better patient data management

Oncology Venture managed its platform with an on-premises infrastructure that ultimately proved to be too resource heavy, especially as the company tried to scale to meet growing demands for services.

“Oncology Venture already attempted to migrate its infrastructure to another public cloud but ran into issues,” says Ejal Bracha, a Sales Engineer at Citrix. “As a result, we expanded our portfolio with Google Cloud to provide a wider range of cloud-based services. This allowed them to maintain patient data security and privacy while enhancing the platform’s performance.”

“Google Cloud provided the best performance and security, while making it easy for us to scale up or down as resource demands require.”

Ulrik Christensen, Principal Infrastructure Engineer, Oncology Venture

Patient data is heavily regulated and considered by many to be the most sensitive information managed digitally. On top of this, challenges with data formats and interoperability make sharing of vital information difficult in healthcare. Oncology Venture’s platform needed to be both highly secure as well as accessible, which is why it chose Google Cloud above other providers.

“Google Cloud provided the best performance and security, while making it easy for us to scale up or down as resource demands require,” says Ulrik Christensen, Principal Infrastructure Engineer at Oncology Venture.

“When we were running our analysis in our own data center, it took us three weeks to run 1,500 patients,” says Ulrik. “Now we can do that in a matter of hours in Google Cloud. This means we can get results faster and ultimately provide treatments to patients faster.”

“We chose to partner with Google Cloud because they are the most innovative cloud provider on the market. With Google Cloud, we can adopt more services and make them part of our whole solution. The partnership benefits are clear when looking at the success of companies like Oncology Venture.”

Continuous innovation to further enhance the platform

Performance is vital to Oncology Venture’s platform, as more actionable and relevant insights from data analysis translate directly to better patient care. Oncology Venture is continually innovating within its platform to speed delivering critical insights to doctors who can more quickly base treatments using current, accurate data.

“We chose to partner with Google Cloud because they are the most innovative cloud provider on the market,” says Ejal from Citrix. “With Google Cloud, we can adopt more services and make them part of our whole solution. The partnership benefits are clear when looking at the success of companies like Oncology Venture.”

In building the platform on Google Cloud, Oncology Venture achieves several goals. System scalability and security are greatly enhanced. Equally important, more powerful processing accelerates time to insight for physicians who can view test results and evaluate treatment options much faster compared to when working in an on-premises environment.

“The faster a doctor can get a result and start treatment, the higher the chance of curing a patient,” says Ejal. “The work we are doing with Google Cloud and Oncology Venture has an immediate, real impact on patient outcomes.”
