The Solution

Utilized data for sustainable decision-making

As an initial step Unilever and Google Cloud collaborated on the first commercial application of Google Cloud and Earth Engine for sustainable commodity sourcing. By combining the power of cloud computing with satellite imagery and AI, Google Cloud is building a more holistic view of the forests, water cycles, and biodiversity that intersect Unilever’s supply chain, raising sustainable sourcing standards for suppliers.

Created a significant step change in sustainable transparency

This collaboration leads to better accountability in Unilever's supply chain, and also helps to detect deforestation and prioritise any habitats in need of urgent protection. It brings the company a step closer to its goals of regenerating nature and ending deforestation in their supply chain by 2023, and work with suppliers to increase transparency.

Unlock smarter marketing insights with Google Cloud

Using Google Cloud tools, Unilever scaled reach and personalization—a strong example of this is their recent ad campaign for Close Up toothpaste in Asia. Using search analytics, Unilever discovered that the second most searched term for their website users was “learning how to kiss.” Using this insight, the team created a three-day campaign for the brand around Valentine’s Day and deployed it in six key Asian markets.

Technical overview
