Enabling and disabling the service

This page describes the steps to enable and disable Container Registry.

Enabling service

1. Sign in to your Google Account.

   If you don't already have one, sign up for a new account.

2. In the Google Cloud Console, on the project selector page, select or create a Google Cloud project.

   Note: If you don't plan to keep the resources that you create in this procedure, create a project instead of selecting an existing project. After you finish these steps, you can delete the project, removing all resources associated with the project.

3. Make sure that billing is enabled for your Cloud project. Learn how to confirm that billing is enabled for your project.

4. Install and initialize Cloud SDK if it is not already installed. To update an existing installation, run the command gcloud components update.
   Note: On Ubuntu, use the Debian package to install Cloud SDK. The Cloud SDK snap package does not include kubectl or extensions to authenticate with Container Registry using the gcloud tool.
5. Enable the API from Cloud Console or with the following gcloud command:

   gcloud services enable containerregistry.googleapis.com

Disabling service

To disable the API from the Cloud Console:

1. Go to the API Overview page for Container Registry.
2. Select the project where the API is enabled.
3. Click Manage.
4. Click Disable API.

Run the following command to disable the API for your current project:

gcloud services disable containerregistry.googleapis.com
