Across our keynote presentations and breakout sessions over the nine weeks of Google Cloud Next ‘20: OnAir, we’ll be sharing a wealth of news and updates on all things cloud. And we want to make sure you don’t miss a thing. Check back in with this blog each week to see a running list of what’s happened—and what’s to come.

Week 9

Week 9 of Google Cloud Next ‘20: OnAir was all about continued investments in our business application platform—how we're helping organizations build and automate business processes, create and extend new applications, and connect and modernize legacy applications. For a more detailed look at the week, read Faster, more powerful apps for everyone: What happened at Next OnAir this week.

  • We introduced our new business application platform category, encompassing API management, no-code application development, automation and data insights capabilities.
  • We announced the beta release of API Gateway, a fully-managed service that lets developers build, secure, and monitor APIs for Google Cloud workloads and serverless backends.
  • We shared updates to our no-code development solution, including Apigee datasource for AppSheet, which connects AppSheet with Apigee APIs, and AppSheet Automation, which help you automate business processes through a natural language interface and contextual recommendations.
  • New app templates from AppSheet extend G Suite capabilities further into no-code development of line-of-business apps.


Week 8

Week 8 of Google Cloud Next ‘20: OnAir was all about AI & machine learning—how we're supporting organizations throughout their AI journey with tools and solutions that can fundamentally transform businesses. For a more detailed look at the week, read An AI gold mine: What happened at Google Cloud Next ‘20 OnAir.

  • Operationalizing machine learning workflows is critical to building repeatable, scalable processes. To improve the MLOps experience, we pre-announced: Prediction backend GA, Managed Pipelines, Metadata, Experiments, and Model Evaluation. These features—part of AI Platform—provide automation and monitoring at all steps of ML system construction, including integration, testing, releasing, deployment and infrastructure management.   • Coming soon: AI Platform will include AutoML as an integrated function in the workflow. This combines the best of no-code and code-based options to build custom ML models faster and with higher quality.
  • To make conversational AI more intuitive, we announced Dialogflow CX, designed to support complex (multi-turn) conversations. It's truly omnichannel—you build it once and deploy it everywhere, both in your contact center and digital channels. 
  • We also continue to make enhancements to Contact Center AI. These include Agent Assist for Chat, a new module that provides agents with continuous support over chat in addition to voice calls by identifying intent and providing real-time, step-by-step assistance.   • We announced a number of solutions that leverage AI to help with industry-specific challenges. Lending Document AI, a new, specialized solution powered by Document AI for the mortgage industry, automates many routine document reviews and speeds up loan applications. Procure-to-Pay Document AI, now in beta, helps companies automate the procurement cycle. And Media Translation API provides real-time speech translation from streaming audio data. 
  • And as a reminder, last week we announced that Speech-to-Text On-Prem, the first of our hybrid AI offerings, is now generally available. This extends our AI capabilities to run on-prem, supporting customers not yet ready for an all-in approach to using cloud services.

Week 7

Updates to Anthos

  • We announced a number of Anthos updates, including hybrid AI capabilities that let you use our differentiated AI technologies wherever your workloads reside. Our first hybrid AI offering, Speech-to-Text On-Prem, is now generally available on Anthos through the Google Cloud Marketplace.
  • We introduced Anthos attached clusters, which let you manage any Kubernetes cluster with the Anthos control plane—including centralized management for configuration and service mesh capabilities.
  • Anthos for bare metal is also now in beta, which lets Anthos run on-prem and at edge locations without a hypervisor. 
  • We announced Anthos Identity Service, which extends your existing identity solutions to seamlessly work with Anthos workloads. 
  • Our customers are using Anthos in many unique ways, and this week we heard how MLB is using it to run their applications anywhere—whether that's in a ballpark or in the cloud. 
Updates to our application development and delivery platform 
  • We added support for Cloud Run, our fully managed container platform, into our Cloud Code IDE plugins. Now you can write, deploy, and debug containerized applications directly from your IDEs such as VS Code and IntelliJ onto our fully managed serverless runtime. 
  • Built-in support for Google Cloud Buildpacks in Cloud Code help you start writing new applications quickly.
  • Events for Cloud Run, in beta, lets you connect Cloud Run services with events from a variety of sources, including GCP services, your own software, and GitHub.
  • Workflows, in beta, let you integrate custom actions, Google APIs and third-party APIs into your code.
  • Artifact Registry, in beta, can help you secure your software supply chain by letting you manage and secure artifacts. 
  • To help you more easily automate your deployments, Cloud Run now supports traffic splitting and gradual rollouts. 
  • To further drive deployment automation, we also made it easy to set up Continuous Deployment directly from the Cloud Run user interface. 

Introducing the Google Cloud Application Modernization Program (Google CAMP)

  • Ready to modernize your applications, but don’t know where to start? Google CAMP provides data-driven assessment and benchmarking, a full suite of developer tooling and compute platforms, and proven best practices and recommendations from Google and the DevOps Research and Assessment team (DORA) to help.

Week 6

  • We gave you a deep dive into our database portfolio and showcased new advancements to help, whether you're modernizing legacy systems or building new applications.
  • Pharmacy technology giant McKesson shared how their teams modernized siloed infrastructure to use data better.
  • Databases General Manager and Vice President of Engineering Andi Gutmans shared the three-phase journey—migration, modernization, and transformation—used by customers to accelerate their move to cloud through new data-driven applications.

Week 4

Week 3

Week three of Google Cloud Next ‘20: OnAir was all about our best-in-class cloud infrastructure, and how to use it to easily run your most demanding applications. For a more detailed look at the week, read Infrastructure for all: What happened at Next OnAir this week.

  • We shared recent enhancements to Google Cloud’s global infrastructure, as well as new deployment options and functionality you can take advantage of. 

  • The new Grace Hopper subsea cable will connect the U.S., U.K., and Spain. When it’s commissioned in 2022, it will be one of the first new transatlantic cables to go live since 2003.

  • By taking a service-centric approach to networking and abstracting the underlying infrastructure, Private Service Connect makes it easy to connect services across different networks and organizations, and protect your network traffic.

  • Google Cloud Armor helps protect your websites and applications from exploit attempts, as well as Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.

  • The new Rapid Assessment & Migration Program (RAMP) provides a holistic, end-to-end migration program that enables a simpler and faster path to success for our customers and partners.

Week 2

Remote work has never been more important, and this week’s G Suite announcements focused on how we’re supporting people and organizations working together, even while apart. For a more detailed look at the week, read our week 2 recap of Google Cloud Next ’20: OnAir.

  • Last week we announced a better home for work inside G Suite. This week’s solution keynote from Javier Soltero, G Suite’s vice president and GM, offered more on what’s new in G Suite, and what’s to come—watch it here.   • We shared a number of stories about organizations using G Suite to re-imagine not only how their teams communicate and collaborate, but how they serve their own customers and support their communities. We heard from organizations in the UK and Ireland and shared new stories from customers like Activision Blizzard King and KIA Motors. In a breakout session, PwC also shared lessons learned from its five-year journey to migrate 275,000+ users to G Suite—watch it here.

  • We announced new G Suite security updates in Gmail, Meet, and Chat, as well as new ways to help IT admins easily manage and secure devices in the Admin Console.

  • We shared more on new G Suite developer platform features and tools.

  • We made AppSheet, Google Cloud’s no-code app-development solution, available at no charge to G Suite Essentials customers through Sept. 30.

Week 1

  • After an inspiring intro from Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Next OnAir kicked off with Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian sharing an overview of our strategy and how we’re helping businesses grow and transform digitally. Read Thomas’ blog post or watch the keynote.
  • We shared a number of new customer stories including our work with Deutsche BankFOX SportsProcter & GambleGroup RenaultTelefónica and Verizon.
  • We announced BigQuery Omni, in private alpha, a flexible, multi-cloud analytics solution, powered by Anthos, that allows you to cost-effectively access and securely analyze data stored across Google Cloud, AWS, and Azure (coming soon), all without leaving the familiar BigQuery user interface. 
  • We announced our first Confidential Computing product—Confidential VMs (beta)—a breakthrough technology which encrypts data in-use—while it is being processed. 
  • We announced Assured Workloads for Government (in private beta) to help US government agencies, and the enterprises that serve them, serve government workloads without the compromises of traditional “government clouds.” 
  • We introduced a better home for work in G Suite that integrates core tools like video, chat, email, files, and tasks. And it not only brings them together, it makes them better together, so you can stay on top of things from anywhere. Learn more in our G Suite blog post.
  • We’re launching C2C, a new, independent community where our customers can learn, connect, and share knowledge. 
  • We announced the Google Cloud ISV/SaaS Center of Excellence (CoE), a new resource to help independent software vendor (ISVs) transform their applications with open, cloud-agnostic architectures, improve user experience through AI/ML and voice, and deliver intelligent insights from their applications by providing rich analytics to business users.
  • We shared updates to our Partner Advantage program which helps partners differentiate themselves through certification, customer stories, expertise, and specialization.
  • Financial institution KeyBank shared how it migrated its data warehouse from Teradata to BigQuery to take advantage of cloud data analytics technology.
