Google named a leader in Gartner Magic Quadrant for Cloud Infrastructure and Platform Services

September 8, 2020
Brad Calder

Vice President & GM, Google Cloud

For the third consecutive year, Gartner has positioned Google Cloud as a Leader in the 2020 Magic Quadrant for Cloud Infrastructure and Platform Services (formerly Infrastructure as a Service, or IaaS). As our customers and communities continue to weather uncertainty in 2020 and beyond, we’re focused on ensuring that our customers are resilient and agile. This year, we strengthened and enriched our offerings to help our customers adjust and plan for the future, and we believe Gartner’s analysis and recognition gives customers the confidence they need as they make important platform choices.

Since last year, we substantially improved our position in the Leader’s Quadrant, both for our “ability to execute” as well as our “completeness of vision.”

As we showed at Google Cloud Next ‘20: OnAir, Google Cloud is built on top of leading infrastructure whose simplicity and ease of use is made possible by sophisticated management and security capabilities. Digital natives and traditional enterprises alike have chosen Google Cloud over the last year as we increased our pace of innovation with services such as updates to Anthos, the launch of VMWare Engine and the introduction of Active Assist, to name a few. With Anthos, Google Cloud customers enjoy the ability to run their workloads where they see fit—on Google Cloud, in their own on-premises data center, or in third-party clouds.

Gartner positioned Google as a Leader for its completeness of vision in data analytics and machine learning, as well as long-standing investments in open-source projects such as Kubernetes and TensorFlow. By leveraging Google technologies, Google Cloud makes it simple for customers to build and deploy applications with unique, useful capabilities that delight their customers—and we look forward to continuing to bring Google’s ingenuity to enterprise organizations.

Google Cloud’s combination of high-performance, expansive infrastructure plus best-in-class managed services resonates with some of the world’s leading organizations. Multinational retail giant Carrefour runs SAP on Google Cloud, as does Wipro Limited, an information technology consulting provider. German consumer electronics retailer MediaMrktSaturn built its omni-channel retail platform on GKE and BigQuery, and beverage manufacturer Keurig Dr. Pepper retired two data centers, each with over 1,000 servers, and migrated to Google Cloud.
