As businesses everywhere work to reduce overhead and shift to hybrid working models, they’re increasingly recognizing the value of Chrome OS. Earlier this year, Chrome OS was recognized as the 2nd largest operating system in the world. Unique benefits like multi-layered security, a plethora of remote management options, and easy cloud deployment make it an ideal fit for IT departments and business users alike.

But for some businesses, quickly moving off legacy Windows applications remains challenging. In some organizations, there are still legacy or proprietary applications that employees need to get the job done. That’s where Parallels Desktop for Chrome OS comes in.

Last year, we partnered with Corel Corporation to bring Parallels Desktop to Chrome OS with the goal of simplifying business transitions to Chrome OS. This allows all users, or certain teams, to continue accessing critical Windows applications as the business finds a modern alternative.

Today, we’re announcing several new ways we’re bringing Parallels Desktop for Chrome OS to more devices.

  • AMD Ryzen processor support: Official support for devices that run AMD Ryzen processors, including the Lenovo ThinkPad C13 Yoga, HP Chromebook Enterprise c645, and Acer Chromebook Enterprise Spin 514.
  • Chromeboxes: The first Chromeboxes to support Parallels Desktop for Chrome OS are now available, including the HP Chromebox G3.
  • Dell Latitude Family: Support is expanded to the Dell Latitude Family, covering the 5300 2-in-1, 5400, and 7410 models.
  • Reduced RAM requirements: Google will now be recommending Chrome OS devices that come with 8GB RAM, reduced from the previous recommendation of 16GB of RAM. Specific models that support Parallels Desktop for Chrome OS can be found in our help article.

There’s also a large need to support hybrid work use cases with enhanced support for video conferencing and peripherals. To accommodate, we are happy to announce that Parallels Desktop for Chrome OS supports the system camera and microphone. This ensures users can access products like the Windows version of Microsoft Teams and Skype. Additionally, Parallels Desktop for Chrome OS now supports USB devices, such as flash drives and USB hubs. This means users can easily pull or back up files directly to a thumb drive from the Parallels File System. These features, along with expanded device support, have made Parallels Desktop for Chrome OS an integral part of their Chrome OS device deployment for businesses like Trimble:

“Employees using Chrome OS were able to quickly and easily transition to working remotely. However, many of our employees required their Windows devices to access legacy applications. By running Parallels Desktop for Chrome OS, employees can run required legacy applications on Chrome OS devices like the Lenovo ThinkPad Chromebook. With camera and microphone support, our users can run applications like the Windows version of Audacity and Camtasia flawlessly, while enjoying the benefits of Chrome OS.” - Frej Krook, Google Workspace Platform Manager, Trimble

To get started, Corel is excited to offer a limited time promotion for free Parallels Desktop for Chrome OS licenses to new qualifying Chrome Enterprise customers through December 31st, 2021. To learn more about their offer and solution, check out parallels.com/chrome.
