Get and redeem education credits

This page describes how education credits work, and how to redeem coupon codes if you're a student or faculty member with education credits.

If you're a faculty member or student and want to redeem credits that you've received, follow the steps in Redeem credits.

For faculty

If you're a faculty member at an eligible institution, you can apply for Google Cloud education credits to teach using Google Cloud. The credits grant you a spending allowance as a Cloud Billing account credit, and can be used for all Google Cloud services. For example, your students might receive a credit in their Cloud Billing account for $50 that they can use for projects for a Computer Science course for a semester.

You can also get additional benefits, such as research credits and Qwiklabs credits. Learn about Google Cloud benefits for faculty.

After your application is approved, you receive these emails:

To redeem the credits, you and your students must follow the steps in Redeem credits.

How education credits work for faculty

When you're using education credits, be aware of the following:

  • If you teach multiple courses that need Google Cloud credits, the credit for each course is tracked separately, in a Cloud Billing account for each course.

  • If you need additional credits, you can request them by following the directions in the email with your coupon codes.

  • Your credits are valid for one year after you redeem them.

  • You can use products in the free tier without counting against your education credits.

For students

If your faculty has applied and received Google Cloud credits for your course, they send you an email with a URL to verify your status as a student. You must confirm your school or college email address to verify. After you've been verified, you get an email with a coupon code. To redeem your credits, follow the steps in Redeem credits.

If you're not already signed in to your Google account, you are prompted to sign in.

  2. The Google Cloud console opens to a confirmation screen. If the coupon code isn't automatically entered, copy the code from the email (where it says Your code) into the Google Cloud console under Coupon code.

  3. If you agree to the terms, click Accept and continue. The credit is added to your account in a Cloud Billing account named for the course it applies to.

  4. If you have additional credit coupons to redeem, you can do so either by repeating the previous steps for each email you've received, or if your account has no remaining credit, you can go to the Education grants page and enter the coupon code manually.
