Setting Up Your Development Environment

To set up your environment for developing on Node.js:

  1. Download, install, and then initialize the Cloud SDK.

    The Cloud SDK provides you the gcloud command-line tooling for deploying and managing your apps.

    By downloading, you agree to be bound by the Terms that govern use of the Cloud SDK for App Engine.

  2. Download and install Git for access to code, samples, libraries, and tools in GitHub:

  3. If you don't already have the Node.js programming language installed, download and install a version.

  4. NPM (Node Package Manager) is usually installed alongside Node.js, but you also have the option to install the Yarn Package Manager as an alternative.

  5. Install your preferred tooling or framework, for example you can use the Express.js framework.
