CEO, Google Cloud

Today, we’re excited to announce that Chronicle, Alphabet’s enterprise security company born in the X moonshot factory, is joining Google Cloud. This union will create a powerful and comprehensive security portfolio that will benefit all of our customers.

Threats posed by attackers to businesses, governments and organizations across the globe have only grown more sophisticated and urgent. At Google Cloud, our customers’ need to securely store data and defend against threats—either in the cloud or on premise—is a top priority. We approach security holistically, from the chip to the datacenter, with a continuously growing set of security capabilities that work in concert to deliver defense-in-depth at scale: from hardware infrastructure, service deployment and user identity, to storage, internet communication and security operations. With the trajectories of Chronicle and Google Cloud increasingly converging in response to customer needs, we want to bring these essential capabilities together for customers.

Google Cloud’s security efforts have been widely recognized in the industry by independent research. In both The Forrester Wave™ for Public Cloud Platform Native Security, Q2 2018 and The Forrester Wave™ for Data Security Portfolio Vendors, Q2 2019, Google was ranked as a Leader and received the highest score among vendors in the strategy category. Our security offerings address important requirements customers have to protect their infrastructure and mission critical application workloads in the cloud; to protect their data; to protect their users; and to give them transparency and auditability of their workloads running in Google Cloud.

Chronicle’s products and engineering team complement what Google Cloud offers. Chronicle’s VirusTotal malware intelligence services will be a powerful addition to the pool of threat data informing Google Cloud offerings, and will continue to support applications running on our platforms. Chronicle’s Backstory investigation flows, added to Google Cloud’s detection, incident management and remediation capabilities, will create a comprehensive end-to-end solution that will enable customers to detect and mitigate threats faster, both within their cloud deployments and across their entire enterprise. Chronicle has received widespread recognition in the industry for its security vision, engineering team and solutions.

Chronicle will join Google Cloud in the coming weeks, and we expect to complete the integration this fall. It’s incredibly exciting to have the Chronicle team join our organization and to bring our combined product offerings to our customers. We believe that together, we will continue to expand Google’s broader commitment to security and to providing the best security offerings to enterprise customers.
